Lagos CBD demolishes criminal hideout in Marina, arrest 10 area boys

The Enforcement Unit of the Lagos Central Business Districts Management office over the weekend arrested ten miscreants popularly known as “Area Boys” and demolished their operational base around the outer Marina, Lagos.

The enforcement operation, which has been a continuous exercise by the Agency, was to rid the island of street urchins in view of their criminal acts and complaints by motorists in the area. The team also demolished shanties built under the pedestrian bridge close to the Leventis bus stop, Marina where the hoodlums hibernate to attack unsuspecting motorists, especially at night.

Speaking on the recent operation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Prince Olarenwaju Anofiu Elegushi said those arrested had earlier been dislodged from the disused CBD Toilet in Marina a few weeks ago but had relocated under the pedestrian bridge, around Leventis bus stop.
In his words, “These street urchins smoking marijuana openly around the bus stop normally attack motorists that have issues with their vehicles, especially at night using the cover of darkness to perpetrate their evil acts. We received different complaints from motorists and pedestrians using the axis and we initiated the plan to arrest them as well as demolish their hideout.
Lagos Central Business Districts Management office will not relent in its efforts to ensure that the Lagos Island Business District is safe to transact business at all times. We will continue this enforcement exercise to clean up the entire business district to an acceptable international standard”, he added.
Elegushi also used the opportunity to warn street traders erecting illegal structures on laybys, walkways and drainage alignment to remove them immediately in order not to be arrested and prosecuted.
